Memorial Meeting held for the Deceased Journalists at Dharmanagar in Tripura

A memorial meeting was held on Wednesday for the deceased journalists Jyotirmoy Ray and Palash Sen at the Dharmanagar Municipal Council's Conference Hall in North Tripura district. 

The event, organized by the Dharmanagar Press Club, began at around 12 pm with the offering of floral tributes and lighting of lamps to the portraits of the deceased journalists, inaugurated by Dharmanagar MLA and Speaker of the State Assembly, Biswabandhu Sen. 

Also present were Dharmanagar Municipal Council's Chairperson Mitali Rani Das Sen, State Secretary of the Tripura Journalists' Union and Editor of Headlines Tripura National, Pranab Sarkar, Palash Sen's wife Kakoli Sen, Jyotirmoy Ray's son Anik Prati Ray, and the Vice president of the Dharmanagar Press Club, Abdul Hannan, among others.

Memorial Meeting held for the Deceased Journalists at DharmanagarSubsequently, a minute of silence was observed for the peace of the souls of the departed journalists. 

It is noteworthy that journalist Palash Sen passed away last year on December 23 while under treatment for kidney-related issues at a private nursing home in Haridwar. 

He was 55 at the time of his death and was associated with the newspaper "Syandan" as well as being the president of the Dharmanagar Press Club. 

On the other hand, journalist Jyotirmoy Ray succumbed to bronchial cancer on January 20 this year at Dharmanagar District Hospital. 

He had been suffering from various diseases, including bronchial cancer for a long time. He was 66 at the time of his death and had been a journalist associated with "Daily Desher Katha," for 35 years. 

Apart from journalism, he was a distinguished personality in the state for his poetry, novels, and essays.

During the memorial meeting, Pranab Sarkar remarked that journalists do not die; they live on through their writings. However, the state's journalism community has suffered an immense loss with the passing of these two talented journalists. 

He also demanded that a road or plaque be named after the deceased journalists from Dharmanagar MLA and Speaker Biswabandhu Sen and Chairperson Mitali Rani Das Sen.

N his speech, Biswabandhu Sen  said while the departed cannot be brought back, he pledged to stand by their families. He mentioned that while Jyotirmoy Ray's family is financially secure, Palash Sen's family is not, and he assured his full support in this matter.

Finally, a Shradhanjali Patra was handed over to the families of the deceased journalists by the Dharmanagar Press Club.
