In a significant step towards enhancing sustainable development in the North-Eastern region, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed on Tuesday between the School of Logistics, Communication and Waterways, CIPET, and the Logistics Sector Skill Council, Chennai.
In a Press Release issued by CIPET, “Sustainable development in the entire North-Eastern region is possible only by reducing transportation costs, ensuring the supply of a market-ready workforce, and integrating the region's natural resources, biodiversity, and tourism potential with technological advancements and skill development. Today, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between the School of Logistics, Communication and Waterways, CIPET, and the Logistics Sector Skill Council, Chennai. The primary objective of this MoU is to ensure the supply of skilled and employable labor, particularly in the logistics sector, in Tripura and the entire North-Eastern region”.

The MoU was formalized by Sushant Dutta, Chief Engineer of the School of Logistics, and Ravikant Yamarti, Chief Executive Officer of the Logistics Sector Skill Council.
The signing ceremony took place at CIPETin Agartala, where key stakeholders from government and industry sectors discussed the strategic importance of logistics infrastructure development in the region.
Speaking at the event, Apurva Roy, Director of CIPET and Finance Secretary of Tripura, emphasized the central and state governments’ commitment to advancing logistics infrastructure in the state.
He highlighted the immense trade potential of the North-East and underscored the importance of creating employment opportunities through skill development and industrial collaboration.
The integration of technological advancements with logistics infrastructure, along with the introduction of specialized courses in technical education institutions, will play a crucial role in shaping a ‘Developed Tripura’ in the coming years, said Apurva Roy.
Among the dignitaries present at the event were Ravi Guju, Head of Projects at the Logistics Sector Skill Council, representatives from the state branch of the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), and other government officials.
Regarding the signing of the MoU, experts opined, this initiative is expected to facilitate industry-academia collaboration, ensuring that students and professionals in Tripura and other North-Eastern states acquire the necessary skills to meet the demands of the logistics sector. Experts believe that with sustained efforts, the North-East can emerge as a key player in India’s logistics and supply chain network, contributing significantly to regional and national economic development.
It is expected that the MoU will mark a crucial milestone in the region’s journey towards sustainable growth, with a focus on skill development, employment generation, and economic progress through enhanced logistics capabilities.
