New MBB Airport terminal to be solar powered

The new terminal building of MBB Airport Agartala that is supposed to give the North East’s second busiest airport an overall face shift will be a completely solar power generated Airport.

Some sources claimed that this would be the first so- lar generated airport of the North East region. Only recently, the AII got an approval for a 2-megawatt solar plant in the airport from Tripura Electricity Regulatory Commission.

According to sources in the electricity department, it was the first instance when the TERC had given approval for a 2-megawatt plant as earlier only 1-megawatt solar power plants were allowed in Tripura.

Sources in the Airport Authority of India said, it has become possible due to the active co-operation of Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb and Chief Secretary of Tripura.

The AII also took to twitter and wrote, “AAI initiative for promoting green energy in line with the Hon’blePM call for generation of power from renewable energy got a major boost as Agartala Airport got permission from TEC for net metering facility of 2MW Solar plant. Made possible with support of Hon’ble CM & Chief Secy”. Speaking on the issue, a top source in the AII Agartala said, “the project will be completed with the comple- tion of the new terminal building. This will promote the use of green energy all across the region and the clarion call of Prime Minister Narendra Modi regarding use of green energy”.
