PM Modi and Brazilian President Lula foster closer relations

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Brazilian President Inacio Lula da Silva recently convened in Hiroshima, Japan during the G7 summit, engaging in productive discussions to bolster their countries' strategic partnership.

The leaders explored a wide range of avenues for collaboration, with a particular focus on sectors such as defense production, trade, renewable energy, and more.

The talks between Modi and Lula were met with satisfaction, as both leaders expressed their commitment to deepening trade relations between India and Brazil.

Prime Minister Modi took to Twitter, stating, "The discussions with President Lula were extensive and productive. India and Brazil are committed to deepening trade ties. We also explored diversifying cooperation in sectors like agriculture, defense, and more."

Echoing this sentiment, the Ministry of External Affairs Spokesperson, Arindam Bagchi, tweeted about the meeting, emphasizing the strengthening of the India-Brazil Strategic Partnership across areas such as defense production, trade, pharmaceuticals, agriculture, dairy, animal husbandry, and renewable energy.

Notably, this marked the first-ever meeting between the two leaders, who acknowledged the 75th anniversary year of diplomatic relations between India and Brazil.

They took the opportunity to review and enhance their strategic partnership, with a particular focus on areas such as defense production, trade, pharmaceuticals, agriculture, dairy, animal husbandry, bio-fuels, clean energy, and more.

Recognizing the significance of business ties, both leaders emphasized the importance of organizing a high-level meeting that would involve business leaders from both nations, facilitating greater economic cooperation and collaboration.

In addition to bilateral matters, Modi and Lula exchanged views on regional developments. They emphasized the importance of continued cooperation within multilateral platforms and stressed the longstanding need for reforms in multilateral institutions to ensure their efficacy.

Prime Minister Modi extended a warm invitation to President Lula to visit India for the G-20 Summit scheduled to take place in September this year.

This gesture reaffirms the commitment of both nations to sustained high-level engagement and collaboration on global issues. It also underscores the mutual desire to further strengthen the India-Brazil partnership.

The meeting between Modi and Lula signifies a significant step forward in cementing the bilateral relationship between India and Brazil.

By exploring various sectors for cooperation, sharing common perspectives on regional and global matters, and extending invitations for further engagement, the leaders have laid a solid foundation for an enhanced partnership that promises mutual growth, prosperity, and a brighter future for both countries.
