Political clash in Tripura leaves at 5 supporters of regional parties injured

In a clash allegedly between supporters of IPFT and TIPRA Motha in Tripura, at least five persons were injured and several bikes and vehicles were vandalized.

 

The incident took place at Kachamati of Ratanpur under Khowai district in Tripura on Thursday. Local sources also said, miscreants had damaged flags and festoons of TIPRA Motha last night. There was a simmering tension in the area since last night, local sources claimed.

 

As the ADC election is knocking at the door, some political attacks have virtually started taking place creating a sense of fear among the hilly people.

 

Being the latest, five persons were injured and multiple motorcycles and vehicles were vandalized during a clash between IPFT and another indigenous body, TIPRA Motha of Pradyot Kishore Debbarma. Royal scion of Tripura, Pradyot Kishore initially floated TIPRA Motha as an apolitical platform. However, recently he decided to shun apolitical tag and to step in political arena. TIPRA Motha is trying to emerge as a viable political force in upcoming Tripura Tribal Area Autonomous District Council (TTAADC) polls.   

 

As part of its reach out programme, TIPRA Motha planned to hold a meeting today. The clash occurred when a group of IPFT men allegedly launched an attack during a meeting of Tipra Motha on Thursday. "

Besides, two vehicles and five motorcycles were also ransacked by the attackers", sources said.

 

Though a complaint was filed at Khowai police station immediately after the incident, no arrest was made till the last information came in.

 

As the news of clash spread, another group of bike-borne miscreants immediately reached the spot and continued the attack.

 

On the other hand, Tipra Motha had campaigned for the meeting through festoons and posters which were also found damaged on Thursday. In the meantime, Khowai police reached the spot and brought the situation under control.

 

According to local reports, a complaint was filed at Khowai police station with the names of attackers that included IPFT MLA Prasanta Debbarma. But, police neither registered the FIR nor arrested any of the culprits till the last information came in.
