Ranji Trophy: Mumbai score 450, Tripura trail by 390 runs with 9 wickets in hand

In an interesting match of the Ranji Trophy, Tripura appear to put up a valiant fight against cricket powerhouse Mumbai at the MBB Stadium on Sunday. After the end of the second day, it's clear that Tripura is giving their all. If Tripura's batsmen can continue their performance on the third day, the match is sure to be a nail-biter.

In response to Mumbai's formidable first innings score of 450 all out, Tripura ended the second day at 60/1. They still trail by a significant 390 runs.

On Sunday, Mumbai's batsmen, resuming from their overnight score of 248/6, accelerated the scoring rate.

Mumbai lost their seventh wicket at team’s score of 303 runs after Shams Mulani scored a well-crafted 71 off 110 balls. Manishankar Murasing claimed the wicket of Mulani.

Next to go was Himanshu Singh at team’s score of 388 and Sridam Paul claimed his wicket. Himanshu made 59 runs of 157 balls.

Shardul Thakur played a blistering knock of 62 playing only 53 balls. He was clean bowled by Parvez Sultan. Shardul was out at team’s score of 411 runs. Mumbai lost their last wicket as Mohit Avasthi was out by Mandeep Singh when Mumbai’s score was 450. Mohit palyed a knock of 25 runs off 57 balls. Royston Dias remained not out at 19 runs of 46 balls.  Mumbai scored 450/10 in 122.4 overs.

For Tripura, Manishankar Murasingh picked up 3 wickets giving away 117 runs, while Abhijit Sarkar and Parvez Sultan claimed 2 wickets each spending 59 and 83 runs respectively. Among the Tripura bowlers, Rana Dutta was the most expensive bowler conceding 102 runs at an average of 4.64 runs. He did not pick up any wickets.  

In their chase, Tripura lost Bikram Kumar Das early, who scored 15. He was off the bowling of Himanshu Singh at team’s score of 55 runs. Das played 24 balls and hit 2 fours.

At the end of the second day, Jibonjyoti Singh was unbeaten on 39 and nightwatchman Parvez Sultan was on 1. In his 39 runs knock, Singh faced 68 balls and smashed 7 fours. The nightwatchman Sultan calmly played 22 balls and remained unbeaten in 1 run.

Tripura's batsmen will need to bat with patience and determination on the third day to carry their team’s score beyond Mumbai’s 450 runs. Cricket experts, the task before the Tripura batters is difficult but not impossible.
