Srimanta Ray of Tripura reaches finals of Prestigious Queer Nature Photography Awards 2024

A photographer by passion and an Associate Professor of Bengali, Dr Srimanta Roy, currently serving as Vice Principal of Gandacherra Government College, has earned international acclaim for his passion for photography as One of his stunning bird photographs, captured in Purbasthali, West Bengal, has been selected as a finalist in the prestigious Queer Nature Photography Awards 2024, hosted in the Netherlands.  

The competition, known for celebrating diversity in nature and photography, brings global attention to artists whose work portrays unique perspectives on the natural world. Dr Ray was officially informed of this honor via email from the contest organizers, who requested more details about the inspiration behind his image and the deeper, mysterious context it conveys.

This inquiry into his artistic vision highlights the captivating quality of his work, which has caught the attention of both nature enthusiasts and professional critics.

Tripura-Queer-Nature-Photography-Awards-2024The authorities of the Queer Nature Photography Awards 2024 have also revealed that the top three winners will be announced during an exhibition in Amsterdam, Netherlands, on October 17.

As part of the celebration, all ten finalists, including Dr Srimanta Ray, have been invited to attend the prestigious event. The invitation comes with round-trip tickets, allowing him to witness the unfolding of this significant moment in person, alongside other distinguished photographers.

When asked about this remarkable achievement, Dr Srimanta Ray was overwhelmed with emotion. "It feels like a dream," he confessed, reflecting on the immense honor.

He emphasized that such recognition strengthens his resolve and inspires him to continue his creative journey. "To see my name alongside ‘India’ or ‘Bharat’ on any international platform brings me immense pride. It is the greatest honor I can receive," Ray said, with a deep sense of patriotism. He expressed optimism that future generations will rise above societal negativity and dedicate themselves to creative pursuits, earning global recognition in the process.

Dr Ray also extended heartfelt gratitude to those who supported him during this journey. He credited his wife, Nishita Bhowmik, for her constant encouragement, as well as boatman Ratan Pramanik, who had accompanied him during the photo shoot in the scenic Purbasthali wetlands.

His colleagues and students at Gandachhera Government College are equally thrilled by his success, celebrating it as a reflection of his multifaceted talent. Dr Ray, in return, expressed his sincere thanks to them for their continued support and encouragement.
