Tripura Assembly post-poll violence: TIPRA Motha assaulted BJP Janajati activist, Jishnu Dev Varma alleges

A Janajati Morcha leader of BJP in Tripura, Ratan Debbarma was severely attacked by TIPRA Motha activists, alleged Deputy Chief Minister Jishnu Dev Varma adding that the victim was attacked as he was party's polling agent.

The incident occurred at Sutarmura ADC village under Charilam constituency on Monday.  Dev Varma is seeking his 2nd term from the Charilam Assembly Constituency.

Dev Varma went to meet the injured Ratan Debbarma and later tweeted, "BJP karyakarta Ratan Deb barma was beaten up by Tipra Motha anti social goons because he was the BJP polling agent. Is this Thansa democracy??? Elections are over and the people have voted. No one can change the peoples’ verdict now.".

The attack on Debbarma,  close on the heels of all party peace meeting, sparked panic and tension gripped the locals.

Local Administration is constantly making efforts to ensure post poll peace. As part it's efforts, an all party peace meeting was held in which TIPRA Motha representatives were also present. It was decided in the meeting that activists of all the parties would work to ensure peace in the area.

However, within 24 hours after the meeting, alleged TIPRA Motha supporters created trouble ignoring the peace initiatives.

Notably attack on Ratan Debbarma was the second incidence of violence unleashed allegedly by TIPRA Motha goons. On earlier occasion, TIPRA Motha went on rampage at Lalsingmura and vandalised shops, bikes etc on February 14 last.

Speaking to the media, SDM of Bishalgarh sub division under which Charilam constituency comes, Binoy bhusan Das assured administration is working to maintain peace in the area.

Appealing to people not to be panicked, the SDM said the Central Security personnel had been deployed in the area to avert occurance of any untoward incident.
