Tripura by Polls: TMC blames BJP for resorting to terror tactics

Tripura Unit of Trinamool Congress blamed the ruling party leaders and BJP councilors for adopting terror tactics to intimidate the voters. The TMC leaders hailed the courage of party workers and voters in the face of hooliganism of miscreants during polls.

Tripura-TMC-blames-BJP-by-PollsContrary to the claim of the BJP that by-polls – held on Thursday (June 23, 2022) in four Assembly Constituencies – were peaceful, Trinamool Congress leaders alleged ruling party leaders tried to rig the polls and obstructed voters from going to polling booths.

However, unlike Congress and CPM, the TMC did not demand for re-polls, so far.

Addressing a press meet in Agartala, TMC leader and Tripura in-charge Rajib Banerjee alleged that large scale poll violence in the four assembly constituencies were witnessed and said that at least 144 complaints had been lodged with the election commission so far based on the reporters from the four assembly constituencies of Agartala, Town Bordowali, Surma and Jubarajnagar.

“This is very unfortunate that even the assembly constituency of the Chief Minister was not spared where the miscreants turned out in huge numbers to disturb and disrupt the entire polling process,” Banerjee alleged.

He further alleged, “Our polling agents were also attacked during the polling, as they were restricted from entering into the polling booths. Even on their way towards the polling booths, miscreants restricted them. Moreover, BJP hooligans launched an attack on our polling agents at Surma on Wednesday night – a day before the poll.”

“A large section of people was restricted from entering into the polling booths to cast their vote, but what we noticed is that this time the voters had fought back against the BJP’s hooliganism during the polling and exercised their democratic rights despite intimidation,” he stated.

The TMC leader asserted, “The hooliganism of BJO activists in this crucial by-polls nailed the last nail in its coffin. The writing on the wall is distinct - it is the beginning of the end of BJP and TMC is emerging as an alternative”.
