Tripura by-polls: Total 22 candidates in fray, Central Forces arriving

A total of 22 candidates of different Political parties including Independents remain in fray for June by-polls in four Assembly Constituencies in Tripura after the nominal withdrawal process ended on Thursday.

 

Meantime Central Forces started reaching State from today.

 

Tripura-by-polls-Total-22-candidates-in-fray-Central-Forces-arrivingThe by-polls will be held in four Assembly Constituencies – Agartala, Bordowali (both in West Tripura district), Surma (in Dhalai) and Jubarajnagar (in North Tripura).

 

Total 24 candidates had filed nominations for the by-polls within the stipulated date – June 6 last.

After the scrutiny, one nomination of AITC in the Town Bordowali seat was rejected. Besides, one independent candidate - Rekha Sabar withdrew her nomination from Surma seat on Thursday.

 

According to an official report, 22 candidates - six from Agartala and Town Bordowali each, five from Surma and Jubarajnagar each—are now in the contest.

 

Meanwhile, the Election Commission has appointed Dr. Partha Sarathi Mishra, Goutam Majumder, Ashwini Kumar Mishra and T. Vijaya Kumar as General Observers to 6- Agartala, 8- Town Bordowali, 46- Surma and 57- Jubarajnagar constituencies respectively.

 

The general observer for 6- Agartala constituency has visited different polling stations on Thursday.

 

The general observers to two seats in the city took part in a mock poll held at Shishu Bihar School on Wednesday.

 

The poll observers accompanied by District Electoral Office Debapriya Bardhan and Returning Officer to Bordowali constituency Ashim Saha then visited the strong room at Umakanta Academy.

 

Besides, a preparatory meeting for the by-election was held at the conference hall of the West Tripura District Magistrate’s office. The Returning Officers, Poll Observers and other Observers, and officials concerned of the two constituencies were present in the meeting that focused on free, fair and peaceful by-election.

 

The by-polls in the four seats will be held on June 23 and the polled votes will be counted on June 26 next.  

 

Meantime, an AIR news bulletin said, 25 Companies of Central forces would be deployed for smooth conduct of by-polls in four constituencies. The Central forces started to arrive in the State from today (June 9) and five companies of the forces arrived and deployed at different places. Remaining forces would arrived within a couple of days.
