Chief Minister Prof. Dr. Manik Saha visited the residence of the late teacher Abhijit Dey in Udaipur of Tripura on Sunday and assured the family members that the government would do everything to ensure justice.
Abhijit Dey, a teacher and a resident of Udaipur in the Gomati District, tragically passed away on August 10 after being physically assaulted.
Dr. Saha along with Finance Minister Pranajit Sinha Roy, MLA Abhishek Debroy, and others, visited the residence of the late Abhijit Dey today.
Speaking with the media, Dr. Saha assured the family members that the government would do everything to ensure justice.
"This is really a sad incident. After I learned about the incident, I immediately directed steps to be taken. Such incidents are not acceptable. The law will take its own course of action. Arrests have also been made. This is truly a painful incident. We couldn't imagine that something like this could happen. The investigation is underway, and the culprits will not be spared. The government will do everything to ensure justice," he added.
Notbaly, Abhijit Dey, the English teacher, was brutally attacked by a group of people over a WhatsApp text that was allegedly misinterpreted by the family members of one of his female students. He later succumbed to injuries at GB hospital in Agartala on August 10 last.
Dey, a government school teacher, was reportedly working as a home tutor and used to teach a female student at her home.
However, when she asked Dey to translate an English word he sent the meaning of the particular word through WhatsApp chat, as he felt hesitated to explain personally the odd meaning of the word, the wife of the deceased teacher claimed.
Shortly afterwards, he was taken to the student's home, where he was attacked and beaten by the student's father and several others in front of his wife on August 8 last.
Following the attack, the family members of the student filed a case against Abhijit Dey at the Udaipur Women's Police Station, leading to his arrest and detention at Radhakishorepur Police Station.
Later that same day, due to his deteriorating health, he was admitted to Gomati District Hospital and later transferred to GB Hospital, where he passed away on August 10.
