The National Service Scheme (NSS) has been highlighted as a platform that connects the youth with national goals. The scheme aims to develop the personalities of students and has units spread across the country, said Tripura Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha.
Inaugurating a seven-day special NSS camp and a blood donation camp at Bijoy Kumar Girls' HS School on Friday (May 11), Dr. Saha emphasized the importance of taking NSS units forward, citing Prime Minister Narendra Modi's emphasis on the matter. As part of the inauguration, the Chief Minister also launched a digital library in the school to facilitate e-learning for students and planted a tree sapling on the school premises.
During the programme, which was held at the school hall, the Chief Minister encouraged NSS volunteers to work alongside the state government to build a drug-free Tripura. He also stressed the need for schools to prioritize modern education in addition to academic learning. The Chief Minister noted that teachers play a critical role in shaping students' lives, and their teachings and advice have a profound impact on students' futures. He also urged students to respect their elders and be kind to their juniors, referencing the historical importance of ancient Indian universities that used to attract students from abroad.
The Chief Minister commended the central government for its efforts to restore this culture and develop a National Education Policy based on inputs from learned individuals in the country. The Prime Minister, he said, believes that the wisest person should lead the country and the world.
Mayor of Agartala Municipal Corporation Dipak Majumder spoke about the NSS's objective of instilling a helping attitude in students, with programs aimed at making them self-capable and fostering a sense of social responsibility.
