Tripura Pradesh Congress is eyeing for a rich harvest in upcoming polls in Agartala Municipal Corporation (AMC). In an attempt to consolidate its support base, the Party has decided to strengthen ward level organizations and reach voters of every ward under the AMC.

Even as Congress was routed in last Assembly elections in 2018 and failed to open an account, its performance improved in Tripura in last Lok Sabha Polls. With reported inner squabbles in the saffron camp, Congress smells a chance in upcoming AMC polls.

With the emerging political scenario and compulsions in mind, Tripura Pradesh Congress Committee Chief Pijush Biswas on Saturday directed party workers to form ward level committees within next seven days failing which party would take stern actions.

The TPCC Chief also opined that this was the time when the Congress could perform better since people had started rejecting the BJP openly, a source in the Congress party said.

The Congress Party on Saturday convened a crucial organizational meeting to discuss and strategize its poll tactics for the ensuing Agartala Municipal Corporation Polls.

Sources said, the party President wants the best performance of Congress in the polls to give a befitting reply to the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party.

In this regard, the source said, the party will soon construct an election committee for the polls. All present members have agreed to empower the party president to constitute the committee.

Apart from that, resolutions have been also taken to strengthen the party’s presence in the city-based Block Congress units. The BCC presidents were asked to convince more and more people to join the Congress party a task that the party’s state leadership felt easy due to the massive anti-incumbency in the state.

According to a party statement, mass deputations will be done in the AMC Mayor Office and respective block offices placing forth the local problems. Representatives from all the block congress committees that fall under AMC areas attended the meeting.
