Tripura Congress Criticizes Government Response to Floods and Rising Crime Rates

The recent floods in Tripura have left communities in turmoil, yet local residents feel abandoned by the government. Ashish Kumar Saha, president of the Tripura Pradesh Congress, alleged during a visit to Kumarghat on Saturday.

He accused the ruling BJP government of failing to provide adequate support to flood-affected citizens.

The Tripura Pradesh Congress has announced plans to submit mass deputations to the Chief Secretary, calling for urgent action through Sub-Divisional Magistrates across North, Unakoti, and Dhalai districts on September 30.

As part of this initiative, Saha is touring each subdivision to mobilize support and organize the party's efforts.

During his visit to Kumarghat, Saha received a warm welcome from local party leaders, including Pabiachhara Block Congress president Asit Deb, State Congress General Secretary Tarun Saha, State Congress Secretary Satyaban Das, and a host of party workers.

Following a preparatory meeting with these members, Saha addressed the media at the party office.

Saha did not hold back in his criticism of the current law and order situation in Tripura and alleged, "Under the BJP rule, the safety and security of our citizens have deteriorated significantly." He highlighted alleged alarming increases in incidents of murder, terror, rape, theft, robbery, and the vandalism of opposition party offices. Despite numerous complaints from the public, he alleged that police inaction has left citizens feeling vulnerable.

Farmers, livestock owners, and laborers are facing dire consequences, yet the government has not stepped up to assist them."

He criticized the government for not allocating central funds to support the affected population, asserting that the claimed Rs 40 crore sanctioned for flood relief was merely a routine yearly allocation for disaster management, not additional assistance for the current crisis.

In a rallying cry for action, Saha warned that if the Congress party's demands for government intervention to assist flood victims and curb rising crime rates are ignored, they would resort to launching a mass movement across the state.

"We will not stand idly by while our people suffer," he asserted.

However, when pressed by reporters regarding the future of the Congress’s alliance with Left parties in the upcoming elections, Saha deftly sidestepped the question, choosing to focus on the immediate issues at hand.

After the meeting in Kumarghat, the Congress president left for Dhalai district.
