Tripura Finance Minister tables tax free Rs 27654.45 cr Budget for 2023-24

Finance Minister of Tripura Pranajit Singha Roy has tabled his maiden full-fledged budget for 2023-24 FY on Friday -the first day of four day long Budget session. No new taxes were imposed.

He proposed a Rs 27654.45 crore deficit budget for 2023- 24 FY. The budgetary allocation is 9.87 per cent higher than RE 2022-23. 

Budget deficit in 2023-24 is estimated to be Rs 611.30 crore compared to previous Rs 569.52 in BE 2022-23. The Fiscal deficit is pegged at Rs 3778.62 crore in 2023-24 while it is Rs  2252.94 crore in RE 2022-23.

In his Budget speech, the Finance Minister revealed growth trajectory of Tripura and said the GSDP is estimated to grow at around 8 percent during FY 2023-24 against estimated 6 to 6.5 percent growth at the National level. The growth in GSDP in FY 2022-23 stood at 8.8 percent compared to 7.2 percent growth at the National level.

Tripura-budget-2023-24Singha Roy informed the House that the State Government has put emphasis on Capital Expenditure and proposed an allocation of Rs 5358.70 crore which is 22.28 percent higher than RE 2022-23.

Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha hailed the Budget 2023-24 terming it growth oriented, inclusive and futuristic. Speaking to the media after the Budget was placed in the House, Dr Saha also applauded the above the national average growth of the GSDP.

In his Budget speech, Pranajit Singha Roy said 13 new schemes including Mukhyamantri Jana Arogya Yojana for universal health (Rs 59 crore), Mukhyamantri Integrated Crop Management Programme (Rs 10 crore), Mukhyamantri Sports Development Scheme (Rs 8 crore), Mukhyamantri Tribal Development Mission (Rs 30 crore), CM-SATH Scheme for Scholarship to Student Achievers (Rs 3 crore), Mukhyamantri Dakhyata Unnayan Prakalpa for skilling the youth for jobs (Rs 50 crore) and Mukhyamantri Nagar Unnayan Prakalpa (Rs 120 crore) were announced.

Allocation for the Education sector including Social Welfare and Social Education was the highest -Rs 4939 crore followed by Health sector (Rs 1756 crore), Agri and allied sector (Rs 1436 crore) and Road sector (Rs 1360 crore).

The Budget 2023-24 also proposed to set up a Centre of Excellence in AI under IT department in collaboration with Tripura Institute of Technology and other national institutes.

To promote Sushan, increase departmental productivity and reduce compliance burden on people leading to 'Easy of Living', the Budget proposed to create Directorate of Good Governance.
