Agartala Municipal Corporation (AMC) Mayor, Dipak Majumder, placed the Corporation’s proposed budget totaling Rs. 397 crore for the fiscal year 2023-24. The Budget estimated deficit to be Rs 55 lakh 22 thousand.
The delay in presenting full fledged AMC Budget for FY 2023-24 was due to Assembly polls in the State early this year. To keep the AMC activities running, Majumder presented Vote on Account for four months in April 2023.
One of the noted proposals is about partial exemption of property tax for freedom fighters families.
The Mayor, while presenting the budget proposals, said, “This year’s AMC Budget introduces a 10% property tax exemption for families of freedom fighters residing in Agartala city area.
The step has been taken as a mark of respect to the valiant martyrs, coinciding with India’s 75 years of independence.”
After tabling the AMC Budget today, the Mayor also said the budget aims at bolstering comprehensive growth within the areas under the AMC.
During the budget presentation, Mayor Dipak Majumder highlighted AMC’s intention emphasizing its commitment to fostering the city’s overall advancement and ensuring accessibility of essential amenities and services for its residents.
Talking about the financial aspect, Mayor Majumder conveyed plans to cover up the Rs. 55 lakh 22 thousand deficit between revenue and expenditure through diverse taxation efforts.
He noted that the anticipated earnings for the current fiscal year demonstrate an increase compared to the previous year.
The budget’s official approval is expected to take place in the presence of corporators on August 10 after discussions on the Budget.
Mayor Majumder also shared plans for the upcoming “Meri Maati Mera Desh” campaign, scheduled to be inaugurated at Agartala’s Elbert Ekka Park on August 14.
The campaign aims to pay homage to the courageous freedom fighters who made the ultimate sacrifice for the nation.
Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha will inaugurate the campaign, featuring a series of events to honor the state’s freedom fighter families.
