The Agartala Press Club is the best in North East in terms of providing facilities to media community of the State, Agartala Press Club secretary Pranab Sarkar said this on Sunday in a programme held to inaugurate Bhupendra Chandra Datta Bhowmik Media Centre in the press club.
The Media Centre was set up with financial assistance from the Bengali Daily Newspaper Dainik Sambad. Notably, Bhupendra Chandra Datta Bhowmik was the Editor of Dainik Sambad. He is considered as one of Editors who played a role in transforming the print media scenario in Tripura.
Speaking on the occasion, Pranab Sarkar also said, the Media Centre will benefit the media persons and Agartala Press Club feels proud to be associated with the name of Bhupendra Chandra Datta Bhowmik.
Sarkar also pointed out that another facility – free diagnostic services – for media persons has started in the Press Club from today with the help of Rotary Club. All the diagnostic tests, like blood sugar, BP etc will be conducted in the Club premises for media persons free of cost. He also listed out several other services and facilities available in the Press Club. In this connection, Sarkar mentioned that works for renovation of the Gym and improvement of Canteen would start soon.
Notably, Agartala Press Club played crucial roles during Covid19 pandemic and played an important part in vaccinating media persons of the State.
Veteran journalist and vice president of Agartala Press Club, Arun Nath proposed to constitute an Annual Prize by the Club for a Write Up competition among the media persons.
Hailing the decision to set up Media Centre in the name of Bhupendra Chandra Datta Bhowmik, Agartala Press Club president and veteran Editor Subal Dey shed light on the history of print media in Tripura. He recalled his first meeting with Datta Bhowmik and focused on Datta Bhowmik’s fearless journalism. Subal Dey also mentioned about movement of media persons and successes. He also talked briefly about present day challenges that the media community is facing.
