Tripura News: Police recover drug worth Rs 4 crore from North District, 2 held

North Tripura Police seized 408 grams of Heroin worth Rs 4 Crore on Sunday and arrested two persons in this connection.

The North Tripura Police administration has once again tasted success in drug haul. On Sunday, the North Tripura Police Superintendent, Bhanu Pada Chakraborty, spread nets in various directions based on secret information about drug transportation. Around 6 pm, a car without a number plate, only having a temporary number plate, which was purchased in March 2024, was stopped on the highway under the jurisdiction of Bagbasa police station.

During the search, Sohel Mia, a resident of Manikpur Boxnagar, aged 23, and Dilwar Hossain, aged 35, also a resident of Manikpur Boxnagar, both under Sepahijala District of Tripura, who were travelling in the car, were recovered. 408 grams of heroin was recovered from them. The market value of which is not known, and the black market value is around Rs 4 crore. They said that the drugs were brought from Silchar with the intention of going to Sonamura. But Police Superintendent Bhanupada Chakraborty said that these drugs are found in Mizoram and Myanmar.

Notably, even as the State government has declared a war against the drug menace, the incidences of drug abuse remain unabated. Youths of the State are in great danger and many of them have fallen into the trap of drug traders. Apart from administrative and police efforts, the government and different organizations are conducting awareness programmes to keep the youth away from the clutch of drugs.
