Tripura News: Sabroom Celebrates as Kanchenjunga Express set to Start Its Maiden Voyage

Sabroom has finally made its mark on the national railway map. The much-awaited Sabroom-Sealdah Kanchenjunga Express is all set to commence its journey from Sealdah Station on Sunday (June 16), bringing joy to the residents of Sabroom.

Sabroom is a peaceful town located near the India-Bangladesh Border in southern most part of Tripura

Due to geographical reasons Sabroom is now on the international map as it is about to get an international friendship bridge over the India-Bangladesh Feni river, a larger land and customs office, a logistics hub, a special economic zone worth about Rs 1500 crore, and much more.

With the rapid development of the Sabroom, rail connectivity also expanded to connect Sabroom with rest of the State. On October 4, 2019, a major milestone in the history of the state's railway service, the first passenger train arrived at Sabroom, the last railway station in the state.

Passenger train services started on the Sabroom-Dharmanagar route. Initially, trains ran from Sabroom to Dharmanagar, but later, during the Corona period, this service was limited to Agartala-Sabroom.

Tripura-Sabroom-Sealdah-Kanchenjunga-ExpressConnecting Sabroom with rest of the country with the long distance trains was a long standing demand of people of the entire South and Gomati districts.

Finally, the Railway Board has announced the fulfillment of the demand and dream. The Kanchenjunga Express, which runs on the Agartala-Sealdah route, has been extended and will now run on the Sabroom-Sealdah route.

It has been announced by the Railway Board that on June 16 (Sunday) the 13173 Kanchenjunga Express will leave Sealdah in Kolkata with passengers for Sabroom and will reach Sabroom on Monday night.

On the next day, Tuesday (June 18), the 13174 Kanchenjunga Express will leave for Sealdah again at 6.20 am. The train will stop only at Udaipur Matabari station  in between Sabroom-Agartala.

The Kanchenjunga Express will leave Sabroom for Sealdah every Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday and Sunday of the week and the Kanchenjunga Express will leave Sealdah for Sabroom every Tuesday, Thursday, Friday and Sunday.

In a social media post Tripura Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha hailed the initiative. He said the extension of Kanchenjunga Express upto Sabroom will immensely benefit the people of the South, Gomati and Sepahijala districts.

“Heartfelt thanks and gratitude to Hon'ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modiji and Union Railway Minister Shri Ashwini Vaishnavji for this laudable initiative”, he wrote.
