Overwhelmed by the response of people on the first day of the two-day special Covid vaccination drive, Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb said Tripura would soon emerge as the first state of the country in terms of 100 percent vaccination.

Deb, who visited various vaccination centres in two districts- Unakoti and Khowai on Tuesday, claimed that around 86 percent of the total eligible population was already vaccinated with the first dose and the special drive was expected to cover the left-out people.

The Chief Minister said that the two-day special drive was aimed at vaccinating the 100 percent eligible population. According to an official report, 26.24 lakh people (18+ age groups) were eligible for vaccination against COVID19 in the state.

In Khowai district, Deb visited vaccination centres at Jambura health sub centre and Madhya Singicherra health sub centre and in Unakoti district, he paid visits to Irani primary health centre, Chinibagan health sub centre and Gouranagar health sub centre. In some places, Deb clicked selfies with the people who took vaccines.

He said there was no crisis of food in rural parts even in the Covid pandemic. To keep food, income and health of the people intact is the priority of the state government, he added.

Deb said, earlier he came to know that some people were not willing to take vaccines in such centres where he visited on Tuesday.

“But, during my visits, I found that the people were taking vaccines spontaneously which indicated the excitement among the people,” Deb said according to a government press release.
