Tripura News: Ujjwala Yojana changing lives of womenfolk

Deputy Chief Minister Jishnu Dev Varma on Wednesday said that Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana (PMUY) had led to women empowerment in India as well as it has protected women's health.

“Tripura government is also moving in line with the Modi government and is attaching utmost effort on gas connections to every household of the state”, he added.

Dev Varma was addressing a gathering in a free gas distribution programme at Charilam. Free LPG gas connections were distributed among 100 consumers at Charilam.

He said, “800 New Gas connections under Ujjwala Yojana were provided to the women of Charilam Mandal through Lakshmi Narayan Gas Agency in South Charilam

Providing LPG connections to BPL households will ensure universal coverage of cooking gas in the country. This measure will empower women and protect their health. It will reduce drudgery and the time spent on cooking. It will also employ rural youth in the supply chain of cooking gas”.

“In the past, the political leaders used to simply deliver speeches in the name of empowering women and did nothing to execute it for the welfare of our mothers,” said the Deputy Chief Minister adding it was the Prime Minister Narendra Modi who had taken decisive and determined efforts for empowering women across the nation by announcing and implementing different schemes.

He said, “Unlike the past people of this state are no more required to go the party offices to get the facilities from government schemes and projects. The BJP government at the centre and state is working for the welfare of the people of this state and reaching the doors of every household with the welfare schemes for its implementation.”
