Tripura: Padma awardee opens Covid booster dose camp, blood donation camp

enewstime-Padma-Awardee-Tripura-Covid-boosterPadma Shree awardee Vaishnavaite Dr Swami Sivananda Maharaj on Saturday inaugurated a camp for administering Covid booster dose at Bullet Club in Teliamura on Saturday. Elated after getting an opportunity to be in touch with the humble yoga guru, members of the Bullet Club felicitated the 126 years old Dr Swami Sivananda Maharaj in a simple programme on Saturday following the Covid norms.

 

After the programme at Teliamura, Dr Sivananda attended a programme organized by Khowai District Police in which DIG of Tripura Police VS Yadav felicitated the monk. Later, he inaugurated a blood donation camp organized by the Khowai District Police.

 

VS Yadav urged people, especially youths to follow the example of Dr Sivananda who is still fit and healthy with the help of yoga and discipline. The DIG advised the youths to stay away from narcotics and instead yoga for a happy and healthy life.

 

Sivananda was born into extreme poverty on August 8, 1896, in Sylhet district - erstwhile undivided India but now in Bangladesh. His parents sought alms to make ends meet. He was orphaned at the age of six. 

 

He was taken under by Guru Omkarananda Goswami at Nabadwip in West Bengal who imparted spiritual education, including yoga, to young Sivananda. He grew up to be the epitome of positive thinking and disciplined life.

 

Dr Sivananda Maharaj completed MBBS from Calcutta Medical College and went to England in 1901 where he earned his Ph.D degree. Later, he dedicated his life to serving underprivileged people. Always humble, Dr Sivananda believes modern education teaches people to live keeping held high whereas Chaitanya Deb inspired spirituality education teaches one to live keeping head down as a mark of humbleness.

 

He was awarded Padma Shree on March 21, 2022.
