Tripura Police nab 2 more accused in CPIM leader Badal Sil murder case, search for others continue

Tripura Police arrested two accused persons, Pradeep Nama and Pinku Poddar, on Sunday in connection with the murder of CPIM candidate Badal Sil in run up to the recent Panchayat polls in the State.

The accused duo was arrested by the PR Bari police station. Acting on a tip-off, the police conducted a joint operation in Sonamura and Melaghar in the early hours of Sunday and arrested the accused murderers.

The police said that Pradeep Nama was arrested from Sonamura and Pinku Poddar from Melaghar. The arrested individuals will be produced in court on Monday, the police said.

With this, the police have arrested a total of three accused in the Badal Sil murder case. The first accused to be arrested was Amal Das. He is currently in judicial custody.

Notably, local CPIM leader and party’s candidate for the ward 4 of South Tripura Zilla Parishad, Badal Sil, was severely injured in an attack by miscreants in Chottakhala market under the Belonia sub-division on the evening of July 12.

Critically injured Badal Sil died on July 13 while undergoing treatment at GB Hospital. Informing the police about the incident, Badal Sil's family filed a case against six people involved in the murder of Badal Sil at PR Bari police station.

Investigating the incident, the police first arrested an accused named Amal Das. The CPIM, Badal Sil's family, and ordinary people continued to submit deputations to the police demanding the speedy arrest of Badal Sil's killers. It can be said that under pressure, the PR Bari police station finally arrested the other two accused, Pradeep Nama and Pinku Poddar, in the early hours of Sunday, 67 days after the murder.

The police said that the investigation is ongoing to arrest the other accused persons.
