In an attempt to expand influence among the non-indigenous voters, regional party of Tripura, TIPRA Motha, launched a new frontal wing, namely Tipra Citizens’ Federation. Party’s supremo Pradyot Kishore Debbarma formally launched the wing in Agartala on Sunday (Dec 11).
Addressing the media, after launching new frontal wing, Debbarma said the people from all communities, castes and religion may join Tipra Citizens’ Federation. The newly constituted Federation will be headed by former-Congress MLA Tapas De.
According to political analysts, the move is to woo the Bengali community, in particular the Schedule castes and OBC people – and also the minority Muslim people.
With the call for ‘Greater Tipra Land’ raised by the party, a sense of insecurity among the Bengali speaking people is palpable and the formation of the new wing aims at washing away the apprehension of the majority Bengali community and win their support.
With the 2023 Assembly polls are a couple of months away, Pradyot Kishore reiterated that his party would contest, not only the in 20 seats which are reserved for Scheduled Tribe, but in 45-50 seats including seats reserved for the SC people.
“We will field candidates from non-tribal communities including those from backward communities, Muslims, and tea garden workers in the ensuing 2023 election in Tripura,” he said.
During the media interaction, Deb Barma made it clear, once again, that Tipra Motha would not forge any alliance with any party unless the concerned party gives written assurance on its core demand – Greater Tipra Land.
He also mentioned that they would try to win in at least 30 plus seats and form Tipra Motha government without anyone’s support.
