Tripura University eliminated from East Zone University Women's Football Tournament
Tripura University's women's football team narrowly missed out on a spot in the All-India Inter-University Football Tournament after a 1-0 defeat to LN Mithila University in the East Zone qualifiers. The match, held at the Manipur Stadium, saw a closely contested battle between the two teams.
From the beginning of the match, both teams displayed aggressive game play. In the 12th minute of the first half, Tripura's goalkeeper, Surbala Jamatia, who had sustained an injury in the previous match, got an injury again at the same spot. Moreover, she had been suffering from a stomach ache for two days. Despite being slightly weak, Surbala had to play as there was no equally skilled substitute goalkeeper.
In the 17th minute, Tripura attacked from the right flank, but Mithila University's goalkeeper made a quick save, denying Tripura their first opportunity. Throughout the match, Mithila University's goalkeeper exhibited exceptional performance. Moreover, the opposing team's defense was very strong, repeatedly thwarting Tripura's attacks.

In the 24th minute, a cross from Mithila University's left winger landed inside the six-yard box. As Tripura's goalkeeper jumped to catch the ball, a Mithila striker collided with her, causing her to fall to the ground. The Tripura players appealed for a foul.
Meanwhile, Mithila's forward, Thapa, took advantage of the loose ball and scored a goal. Although the linesman initially raised the flag, the referee allowed the goal to stand, disregarding Tripura's protests.
The first half ended with this goal. In the second half, both teams tried hard to score but were unsuccessful.
Tripura's players were visibly tired due to playing three consecutive matches and carrying previous injuries. Being the only team from the Northeast in the All India qualifying round, Tripura's girls tried their best, but their physical condition hindered their performance. Despite making repeated attempts to penetrate Mithila's box, they failed to score.
After the final whistle, Tripura's players broke down in tears. Spectators observed that Tripura's performance in this match was slightly weaker compared to their previous match against National Sports University. Their attacking game was particularly less effective. Physically, the Mithila team had a slight advantage. Moreover, Mithila University was playing their first match of the tournament as the defending champions, which gave them an edge. In a nutshell, Tripura's women's team missed out on a golden opportunity.
On this day, Tripura along with Kolkata, Ranchi, and Sambalpur Universities suffered defeats. The four teams that qualified for the All India round were Vidyasagar University, Adamas University, Bardhaman University, and Mithila University. Tripura's women's football team participated in the East Zone University tournament for the first time.
