October 3, 2017: Tripura Chief Minister and CPIM Politburo member Manik Sarkar today unleashed scathing attacks on Centre’s economic policies and held both the UPA and NDA Government at Centre responsible for sufferings of common people of the country. Hinting at maintaining equidistance from Congress and BJP, Sarkar mooted the idea of forming countrywide a ‘United platform’ of mass organizations while addressing a Kisan Sabha meeting at Hissar in Haryana.
Addressing the mammoth gathering of farmers, Sarkar said, “Both the UPA and incumbent NDA governments followed economic policies that favoured the rich and under privileged sections of the society were deprived of any real benefits. Farmers are committing suicide while big corporate players are being favoured by the Government”, Sarkar alleged.
In his fiery speech, Manik Sarkar mentioned about falling GDP, price rise, hike in prices of petro-products despite fall in fuel prices in international markets. He stated, there is no report of farmers’ suicide in Leftists’ ruled Tripura and Kerala. “There were no farmers’ suicide in West Bengal under left regime, however, now farmers are in distress”, he alleged.
Mentioning about deplorable socio-economic conditions of the country, Sarkar appealed to organize sustainable struggle to protest against the economic policies and social injustice. “It is important that mass organizations in the country form a ‘United Platform’ for launching agitation and exert pressure on the central government for changing its policies”, he commented.
While Manik Sarkar’s emphasis on struggle by mass organization shows light on future forms of actions of Leftists against the Central Policies, his strong criticism of Congress and BJP clearly highlights CPIM’s policy of maintaining equidistance from both of these two parties.
