An Indian woman, aged 38, has been sentenced to a two-year jail term in Dubai and faces deportation for assaulting her lover’s wife with a fruit knife, according to a media report. The incident occurred when the woman went to inform the wife about her 15-year-long affair with the husband, as reported by The National newspaper on Thursday.
During the court proceedings, it was revealed that the woman visited the man’s residence in Al Qusais on October 26 of the previous year, where she encountered his wife at the door. Upon meeting, she embraced the victim and, in the process, stabbed her twice in the back, resulting in 4 cm deep wounds, as indicated by medical records.
The husband, also of Indian origin, quickly came to his wife’s aid and managed to disarm the woman, while their daughter contacted the Dubai Police. Subsequently, the wife was transported to the hospital for treatment. In her statement, the woman mentioned, “I called him two hours before the incident and said that I will come to meet his family and tell them about our affair. He asked me not to come and closed the phone.” She further clarified that her intention was not to harm the victim, but rather to frighten her. Additional knives were discovered in the woman’s possession during a search conducted by the police.
According to official records, the woman stated, “He brought me to Dubai in 2019, and we engaged in an affair while staying in a rented apartment in Sharjah.” The Dubai Criminal Court, after considering the evidence, sentenced the woman to two years in prison for attempted murder, followed by deportation. Furthermore, she has been ordered to pay compensation amounting to Dh51,000. However, the victim’s lawyer has indicated his intention to file a civil case in pursuit of a larger amount.
The case has now been transferred to the Dubai Court of Appeal, with the initial hearing scheduled for July 26.
