A group of senior lawyers associated with both the Bars on Monday met in a deputation to DGP in-charge Tripura police Rajiv Singh in Agartala and sought immediate arrest of the miscreants accused in manhandling two lawyers in the court premises of West Tripura district Court.
The victim lawyers identified as Goutam Banik and Anirban Basak were assaulted by a group of miscreants at the Court premises for pleading a case of interfaith marriage. Representatives of both the Bars met the DGP in-charge and apprised him of the seriousness of the incidents and sought prompt action against the perpetrators.
Speaking in front of the police headquarters, senior lawyer Subrata Sarkar said, “we have described each and everything to the police chief and requested him to bring the culprits behind the bars. From our end, we have also tried to request him to bring back people’s confidence on the rule of law”.
Senior lawyer Bhaskar Debbarma said, “we have our backs on the wall. Such incidents can not be tolerated at any point and the police should act against the people involved in such activities”.
