Agartala, March 11, 2020: With noticeable growth in road-air-rail connectivity, increasing tourist footfalls and stronger economic parameters like growth in GSDP, Per capita income and revenue collection during last 24 months – it is Tripura, set to be crowned with ‘Fastest Growing State‘ and it’s capital Agartala is also set to win Fastest Growing City Award. The Awards will be given in a programme at New Delhi on March 27 next. Tripura Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb will receive the Awards. Biplab Kumar Deb has announced this at a program in the city today. He was speaking at the inaugural session of first-ever Tribal Cultural festival being held at Swami Vivekananda ground in Agartala.

Comments on Fastest growing Awards

“Earlier Tripura used to get award for BPL cards. But, after formation of the new government, the state is now receiving awards in various categories like good governance, rapid growth in Agriculture, MGNREGA implementation and infrastructure development. The Rural Development department has received altogether 13 awards in just two years,” Deb said.

“Now, Prime Minister Narendra Modi in a letter informed that Tripura would be awarded as the fastest growing state of the country while Agartala will receive award as the fastest growing city. The award giving ceremony will be held in New Delhi on March 27 next”, the Chief Minister said.

In another annoucement, Deb said the Union Home Ministry has sanctioned Rs. 365 crore for setting up of ICP at Sabroom in South Tripura. “Earlier, in-principal permission was given for the proposed ICP but the matter was pending. In my recent meeting with the Union Home Minister in New Delhi, the matter was discussed in details. On March 10, I was informed over phone that the Centre had approved the ICP of Rs. 365 crore under single scheme.”

Number of registered tribes goes up

The Chief Minister said the State and Central governments are now working together for development of the indigenous people. “The state government has already sent a special package of around Rs. 8600 crore (meant for Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council, TTAADC, development) to Union Home Ministry for approval”, he said.

Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb made a significant announcement relating to indigenous communities of Tripura. He said the number of registered Tribes in Tripura has gone up from 19 to 20– Kuki is now a registered tribe – earlier there 19 registered tribes in the State. Recognizing Kuki as one of the registered Tribes will help them prosper, preserve their own culture.

“There are 20 main tribes having own cultures and traditions, customary laws and languages. It’s a matter of joy that the traditional handmade Rishas of indigenous people are now being used for felicitation and other purposes in almost every programme. They feel proud after seeing that the Ministers and dignitaries are wearing the handmade Rishas made by them”, he said. In Tripura 30 percent people of the total population are Tribal. The state cannot progress without the growth of indigenous people, he said.
