Agartala, January 18, 2019: Chief Minister Biplab Deb today reviewed the ground situation in violence hit Madhavbari and nearby areas. The Chief Minister, accompanied by Tribal Welfare Minister Mebar Kumar Jamatia and MLA Sushanta Choudhury visited Madhavbari, Dasram bari and NIT area and interacted with affected traders and local people. The Chief Minister also visited injured persons at GB Hospital and prayed for their speedy recovery.
Biplab Kumar Deb today announced compensation of Rs one lakh to each person injured in police firing on anti – citizenship demonstration Madhabbari ten days ago. He has also announced to provide financial assistance of Rs 50,000 to traders whose shops were gutted during the incident. Earlier civil administration was also provided Rs 2000 cash assistance as immediate relief to the victims from disaster relief fund.
Chief minister met the injured person undergoing treatment in GBP hospital today morning along with tribal welfare minister Mewar Kumar Jamatia had interacted with the doctors about their treatment and assured them of justice.
Deb later visited violence hit Madhabbari and nearby areas. He was accompanied by Tribal Welfare Minister and MLA Sushanta Choudhury visited Madhabbari, Dasram bari and NIT area and interacted with affected traders and local people. He also inspected damaged statue of Maharaja Bir Bikram Kishore Manikya.
Locals gave the Chief Minister a detailed account of the incident. He also held a meeting with the top civil and Police officials in attendance. “State government will take strong steps to counter the divisive forces creating discord and violence and bringing misery to the peace-loving people of the state”, Deb said.
Recently, state government ordered a magisterial inquiry into the incidence of violence in Madhavbari, which will commence on January 30 next. The probe will be carried out by DM (West) Dr Sandeep Namdeo Mahatme.
He also inspected damaged statue of Maharaja Bir Bikram Kishore Manikya. Expressing sympathy, he asserted that Government would provide compensation to affected families.
On January 08 last, Police opened fire on the tribal protestors while they were protesting against the Citizenship Amendment Bill 2016 in Madhavbari. and nearby areas this morning. At least 11 tribal youths were injured in the violence and several shops were set on fire at Madhavbari.
State government has taken responsibility of all Hospital and treatment bills of the injured. At Dasharampara, the Chief Minister had to uncover the statue of Maharaja Bir Bikram Kishore Manikya, which was vandalized. He said, State Government has deep respect for the King and the State Government will restore and repair the statue.
