Teliamura (Tripura) Aug 12: Kaloi Basti in Tripura witnessed a shocking incident as a bear attack victim squirmed in pain for hours before he could be transported to the sub-divisional hospital after a bear attack.
A young man was severely injured after a wild bear attacked him in a remote forested area at Kaloi Basti under the Teliamura Subdivision in Tripura on Tuesday (Aug 12) morning.
Locals alleged, the lack of roads and transportation in the remote hamlet delayed his transportation to Teliamura sub-divisional hospital. The incident took place around 11 AM in Koloi Basti, a settlement in Bilai Kang under the 18 Mura ADC Village, within the jurisdiction of Mungiakami Police Station.

Alindra Koloi, a local resident, was tending to his jhum cultivation, collecting banana bunches, when a wild bear suddenly charged at him.
The attack left Alindra with deep scratches and severe injuries across his body. Hearing his cries for help, nearby workers rushed to the scene and drove the bear away, saving Alindra from further harm.
However, the rugged terrain and absence of proper roads in the hilly region made it nearly impossible to transport him quickly. With no vehicles or communication networks available, the rescue effort turned into a grueling ordeal.
According to Alindra’s father, it took nearly five hours of strenuous effort to carry the injured youth through the forest to the nearest point accessible by road. Villagers took turns carrying him on their shoulders, navigating the challenging landscape.

It was only around 9:30 PM that Alindra was finally brought to Teliamura Sub-Divisional Hospital, where he is now receiving treatment. Medical staff reported that his condition remains critical. The incident has sparked outrage among locals, who have long voiced concerns over the lack of basic infrastructure in the region. Residents pointed out that the absence of proper roads and emergency medical services in remote areas like Koloi Basti significantly delays critical care, putting lives at risk.
As Alindra fights for his life, this tragic event serves as a stark reminder of the challenges faced by those living in the state’s isolated regions and also the uphill tasks concerned authorities face in ensuring connectivity in hard-to-access areas.
