Agartala (Tripura), May 29 : Maharaja Bir Bikram (MBB) University marked a milestone with its inaugural convocation ceremony at the Rabindra Satabarshiki Bhavan in Agartala, showcasing Tripura’s commitment to educational excellence.
Governor Indrasena Reddy Nallu and Chief Minister Professor (Dr.) Manik Saha graced the event, emphasizing the fusion of rapid technological advancements with India’s rich educational heritage to prepare students for a dynamic future.
During the convocation, Tripura High Court Justice T. Amarnath Goud was conferred the Degree of Literature (Honoris Causa)

Balancing Innovation with Timeless Values
In his keynote address, Governor Indrasena Reddy Nallu highlighted the transformative impact of technology on modern life. “The pace of technological progress is unprecedented, reshaping our world every moment. Yet, we must adopt these advancements with caution and responsibility,” he stated.

He urged students to embody qualities like empathy, creativity, and critical thinking, which remain vital in the era of artificial intelligence (AI).
Paying tribute to Maharaja Bir Bikram Kishore Manikya, the Governor described him as a progressive visionary who recognized education as the cornerstone of Tripura’s future.
“Even in the AI-driven world, human values and adaptability make students invaluable to society,” he said, calling for collective efforts to advance the state while preserving its cultural diversity and heritage.
Chief Minister Outlines Educational Vision
Chief Minister Professor (Dr.) Manik Saha reaffirmed the state government’s dedication to elevating MBB University into a beacon of academic excellence. “We are pursuing a long-term vision to ensure quality education for all,” he said, spotlighting the implementation of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 across Tripura’s institutions.
The NEP integrates India’s storied educational traditions with modern curricula, exemplified by MBB University’s new Indian Knowledge System course.
Dr. Saha announced plans to introduce programs like BBA, MBA, BCA, MCA, B.Sc., and M.Sc. in Biotechnology to broaden students’ career prospects.
He emphasized technology’s role in enhancing education, particularly through AI, stating, “From appointing assistant professors to opening new colleges and waiving tuition fees for female students, we are fostering an inclusive educational ecosystem.”
Reflecting on India’s global contributions to mathematics, science, yoga, and philosophy, the Chief Minister praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s efforts to revive the legacy of institutions like Nalanda University.
He also highlighted state initiatives such as the Chief Minister Kanya Atmanirbhar Yojana, Yuba Yogayog Yojana, and free scooter distribution for eligible students to empower the youth.
Recognizing Academic Excellence
The ceremony honored Judge of the Tripura High Court Justice T. Amarnath Goud with an honorary Degree of Literature (Honoris Causa). Certificates were awarded to graduates in Ph.D., postgraduate, undergraduate, and postgraduate diploma programs, with 135 students receiving medals for academic excellence.

The awards were presented by the Governor, the Chief Minister and dignitaries including Vice-Chancellor Dr. Bibhas Deb, Special Secretary Raval Hemendra Kumar, and Registrar Dr. Sumanta Chakraborty.
A Message to Graduates
Addressing the graduates, Dr Manik Saha described the convocation as a defining moment. “As you step into the next phase of life, you’ll face challenges. Overcome them with skill and resilience, while staying humble and respectful,” he advised, expressing optimism for their future achievements.
