Tripura police seize 7,800 yaba tablets, a pistol, and ammunition in a pre-dawn raid in Sonarerbasha. One woman arrested as authorities crack down on the arms-drugs nexus in North Tripura.
Dharmanagar (Tripura) May 30: In a chilling reminder of the growing nexus between narcotics and illegal arms trade, Dharmanagar police unearthed a dangerous cache consisting of yaba tablets, a pistol, and live ammunition during a recent operation.
The simultaneous recovery of drugs and firearms underscores the alarming convergence of substance abuse and armed criminality—posing a grave threat to both public safety and national security.
In a significant stride against drug trafficking, Dharmanagar police seized a substantial cache of yaba tablets, a firearm, and live ammunition during a raid conducted on Friday.
The operation, which took place in the Sonarerbasha area of Dharmanagar sub-division, also led to the arrest of a woman.
Sources within the police confirmed that the raid was carried out around 3 a.m. on Friday following a confidential tip-off.
Officials had been alerted in advance that illegal narcotics were allegedly being stored at the residence of one Helal Miah in Sonarerbasha.
Based on this intelligence, a coordinated raid was launched under the supervision of the SDPO, Dharmanagar.
During the search, officers uncovered 7,800 yaba tablets, a pistol, and four live bullets from Helal Miah’s house.

Although Helal Miah was not found at home during the raid, his wife, Maman Begum, was apprehended and taken into custody by police.
North Tripura Superintendent of Police, Avinash Ray, later briefed the media on the operation and emphasized the department’s continued dedication to combating drug-related crimes.
