Jai Bharat!, said Union Minister of State for Information & Broadcasting and Parliamentary Affairs, Dr L Murugan in Belonia under the South Tripura District on Friday.
The Union MoS launched a vibrant ‘Tiranga Yatra’ in Belonia today on the second day of his visit to the state. The patriotic rally, aimed at commemorating the valor of India’s armed forces post the successful ‘Operation Sindoor,’ drew enthusiastic crowds, reflecting the region’s deep sense of national pride.
Addressing the media in Belonia, Dr. Murugan underscored the PM Narendra Modi government’s commitment to prioritizing border villages in India’s development framework. He emphasized ongoing efforts to enhance infrastructure and uplift socio-economic conditions in these areas, aligning with the vision of inclusive growth.
Highlighting South Tripura’s progress, the minister shared that 97.55% of MGNREGA job card holders in the district are employed, with 2,083 individuals completing the full 100 days of guaranteed work. Under the PM-Kisan Yojana, 21,889 farmers receive Rs 6,000 annually, while 3,842 farmers have benefited from the Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana. Additionally, 2,040 farmers have been issued Soil Health Cards to boost agricultural productivity.
Dr. Murugan also praised the district’s strides in women’s empowerment, noting that 7,486 self-help groups (SHGs) have been formed, fostering over 28,000 “Lakhpati Didis” — women entrepreneurs driving economic self-reliance. He spotlighted the ‘One District One Product’ (ODOP) initiative, which promotes South Tripura’s cashew industry for export, advancing the ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat’ mission.
In a nod to academic excellence, the minister celebrated Suraj Basu, a government school student from South Tripura, who secured the state’s highest score of 99.2% in the Class 10 board exams. “Suraj’s achievement is a source of inspiration, showcasing the rising educational standards of the State,” Dr. Murugan remarked.
He reiterated that South Tripura’s advancements reflect the ethos of “Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas, Sabka Prayas,” propelling the district toward the goal of a “Viksit Bharat” (Developed India).

Later, Dr. Murugan visited the Sudhir Sarkar Para Anganwadi Centre (AWC) in West Jolaibari Gram Panchayat, where he engaged with children and Anganwadi staff, planted a lychee sapling, and joined a traditional “Sadhbhakshan” meal ceremony for pregnant women. Accompanied by Tripura’s Cooperation Minister Sukla Charan Noatia and local leaders, he reviewed grassroots welfare efforts.
The minister wrapped up his visit with a meeting in Agartala alongside Tripura’s Chief Minister, Dr. Manik Saha, to discuss further development strategies for the state.
