Bhubaneswar, November 16 : India successfully carried out its first night trial of the nuclear-capable Agni-II intermediate-range ballistic missile on Saturday, launching it from Abdul Kalam Island off the Odisha coast.

According to defence sources, the Strategic Forces Command of the Indian Army conducted the test launch of the surface-to-surface missile from Launch Complex IV of the Integrated Test Range on Saturday evening.

The Agni-II missile, developed by the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO), has already been deployed in the country’s armed forces.

Measuring 20 metres in length, the two-stage ballistic missile has a range of 2,000 kilometres. It weighs 17 tonnes at launch and is capable of carrying a payload of up to 1,000 kilograms, the sources added.
