In a symbolic gesture promoting peace and harmony, Prime Minister Narendra Modi unveiled a bust of Mahatma Gandhi during his visit to Hiroshima, Japan on Saturday. Speaking about the global significance of Gandhian ideals, Modi emphasized their ability to inspire millions worldwide.

 

The Prime Minister took to Twitter to share the significant moment, stating, “Unveiled Mahatma Gandhi’s bust in Hiroshima. This bust in Hiroshima gives a very important message. The Gandhian ideals of peace and harmony reverberate globally and give strength to millions.” Along with his tweet was a photograph capturing Modi offering prayers in front of the revered Mahatma Gandhi’s bust.

 

Prior to the unveiling ceremony, Prime Minister Modi held a productive meeting with his Japanese counterpart, Fumio Kishida. Modi tweeted about the meeting, expressing his satisfaction, “Had an excellent meeting with PM Kishida this morning. We reviewed the full range of India-Japan relations and also discussed the focus areas of India’s G-20 Presidency and Japan’s G-7 Presidency towards making our planet better.”

 

Prime Minister Modi’s visit to Hiroshima is part of his participation in the G7 Summit, where he is scheduled to engage in bilateral discussions with several global leaders. Departing from India for Japan, Modi highlighted the significance of the trip, saying, “I will leave for Hiroshima, Japan to attend the G7 Summit under the Japanese Presidency at the invitation of Fumio Kishida, Prime Minister of Japan.” He expressed his pleasure in meeting Prime Minister Kishida again following the latter’s recent visit to India for the India-Japan Summit.

 

Modi’s presence at the G7 Summit holds particular importance as India currently holds the G20 Presidency. He eagerly anticipates exchanging views with G7 countries and other invited partners to collectively address global challenges. Additionally, the Prime Minister plans to conduct bilateral meetings with select leaders participating in the Hiroshima G7 Summit.

 

After his visit to Japan, Prime Minister Modi will travel to Port Moresby, Papua New Guinea. Furthermore, he has accepted an invitation from Australian Prime Minister Albanese to visit Australia, where he will engage with Australian CEOs and business leaders. In Sydney, Modi will also have the opportunity to meet the vibrant Indian community during a special event.
