The students’ community needs to work for the welfare of helpless, distressed and deprived sections of the society, said SC Welfare Minister Bhagaban Chandra Das.
Das inaugurated a ‘One-time Financial Support’ scheme for the students belonging to the SC communities at Pritilata Hall in Agartala on Tuesday.
Under the ‘One-time Financial Support’ scheme, Rs 1 lakh will be given to selected SC students in two instalments for studying in various courses like B.Ed, BSC Nursing, B Tech, GNN etc – in the State or in other states. A total of 247 SC students have received sanctions for the 1st instalment of Rs 50 thousand in today’s programme. For this, the SC welfare department has incurred an expenditure of Rs 1 crore 23 lakh 50 thousand. The second instalment will be paid later on. According to a government press release, a target has been set to bring a total of more 270 SC students under the scheme this year.
Speaking on the occasion, Das said the State Government has introduced the ‘One-time Financial Support’ Scheme to provide financial Support to meritorious but poor students as many of them fail to pursue higher education due to financial constraints. Besides, there are Pre-matric and Post-matric scholarships as well as facilities to avail loans for higher studies.
“Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Tripura Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb are working for the upliftment of SC, ST and OBC people”, Das said and appealed to the students to devote time for the welfare of the society after completing the study with honesty and sincerity.
