Biren Singh Stresses IDP Relief Ahead of BJP Delhi Meet
New Delhi, Dec 14: Ahead of a crucial meeting with the BJP central leadership in New Delhi, former Chief Minister N. Biren Singh underlined that addressing the humanitarian crisis, specifically the hardship of Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs), would be a top priority for any new elected government in Manipur.
Singh, who confirmed that all BJP legislators were called to the national capital to discuss the possible formation of a government, stressed the urgency of resolving the hardships faced by IDPs affected by ongoing violence and improving facilities in their relief camps.
He added that once a popularly elected government is installed, addressing the issues of displaced families and other pressing challenges facing Manipur would be treated as top priorities by the administration.
Manipur remains under President’s Rule, imposed on February 13. The 60-member Legislative Assembly is under suspended animation but its term is valid until 2027. Singh recently reiterated that all BJP legislators in the state are united in their objective of restoring an elected government and resuming administrative responsibilities, confirming that steps toward this formation are already in progress.

Last month, senior BJP leaders at the national level, including National General Secretary (Organisation) B. L. Santhosh and the party’s Northeast in-charge Sambit Patra, spent three days in Manipur holding multiple rounds of consultations with state leaders and MLAs, further fuelling speculation about a potential return to an elected government.
In October, a delegation of 26 BJP MLAs, including Biren Singh, met Santhosh and Patra in New Delhi and appealed for the installation of a “popular government” in Manipur, conveying their collective willingness to resume administrative responsibilities.
Biren Singh has recently reiterated that all BJP legislators in the state are united in their objective of restoring an elected government.
He also indicated that steps towards government formation are already in progress, while avoiding comments on differing views expressed by individual party members. (Edited)
