Agartala, January 15, 2019: Makar Sankranti seems to bring temporary relief for Bru refugees staying camps in North Tripura District as the Central Government announced continuation of relief supply – the supply was scheduled to be stopped from today.
Supply of relief to Bru refugees has been extended by the center till March 31 next. “Over 32,000 Bru refugees lodged in six camps in North Tripura will get ration supply and cash dole till March 31 next”, an official said tonight.
“As per MHA instruction, cash dole and relief supplies will continue till March 31 next and if no new order comes from the centre, the supplies shall be halted”, the official sources claimed. “Accordingly, the matter was informed to the Mizoram government. So far, no communication on the part of Mizoram government has been made”, sources said.
Earlier, the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) halted all relief supplies from October 1 last year after the repatriation failed. However, supplies resumed three weeks later as severe food crisis had started in the Bru camps.
