Union Minister for Women and Child Development Annpurna Devi has highlighted women and child welfare initiatives in Tripura as an example of effective implementation of government schemes. During her visit to the State, the Union Minister reviewed multiple welfare programmes and stressed that strong grassroots implementation will be crucial for achieving the vision of a developed India by 2047. The Minister also handed over financial assistance of Rs 50,000 to a beneficiary under the Mukhyamantri Balika Samriddhi Yojana aimed to support the welfare and development of a girl child.

Minister takes part in Women & Child Welfare initiatives in Tripura
Agartala: State Government approach towards women and child welfare has received appreciation from the Centre, with Union Minister for Women and Child Development Annpurna Devi describing the state as a model for implementing development-focused welfare programmes. During her Tripura the Minister visited the Saksham Anganwadi Centre near Mahila Ashram, Abhoynagar in Agartala today and interacted with children, parents, and Anganwadi workers.
Our reporter informed the Enewstime Desk that she handed over Rs 50,000 Assistance Under Mukhyamantri Balika Samriddhi Yojana to a beneficiary during her visit. Besides, Devi also participated in the Annaprashan and God Bharai ceremonies, celebrating the journey of maternal and child nutrition and care.
The Union Minister said that the combined efforts of the Central and Tripura governments are creating a stronger support system for women and children through various schemes, institutional mechanisms, and legal safeguards.
Her remarks came during a review of several women and child welfare initiatives in the state, where she assessed the functioning of childcare institutions, Anganwadi services, women support centres, and upcoming infrastructure projects.
According to the Union Minister, the progress in implementing welfare schemes reflects the broader vision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s “Viksit Bharat” mission, which aims to ensure inclusive growth by strengthening social development sectors.
Welfare Schemes Moving Beyond Assistance Towards Empowerment
The Union Minister emphasised that welfare programmes today are not limited to providing immediate support but are also focused on creating opportunities for long-term empowerment.
She said that the development of children through proper nutrition, education, healthcare, and skill-building initiatives would play a major role in shaping India’s future.
During her visit to the Girls’ Unit-II Child Care Institution, the ‘Saksham’ Anganwadi Centre near the Women’s Shelter at Abhoynagar in Agartala, and the under-construction Working Women’s Hostel, Annpurna Devi reviewed the facilities and discussed ways to improve service delivery.
She highlighted that women and children are at the centre of India’s development journey and that effective implementation of welfare programmes at the grassroots level remains a key priority.
The Union Minister added that the Ministry of Women and Child Development is continuously working to strengthen child protection systems while expanding opportunities for education, skill development, and personal growth.
Strengthening Nutrition and Child Development Framework
A major focus during the review was on programmes aimed at improving nutrition and early childhood development.
The meeting examined the implementation of schemes such as Saksham Anganwadi and POSHAN 2.0, which are designed to improve nutritional outcomes and strengthen early childhood care services.
The Union Minister stated that healthy and well-supported children will become the foundation of a developed India. She noted that investment in children’s growth and development is directly linked with the country’s future progress.
The discussions also covered initiatives such as PM JANMAN, Mukhyamantri Pushti Uphaar, Mukhyamantri Balika Samriddhi Yojana, Mukhyamantri Poshan Abhiyan, Mission Shakti, Beti Bachao Beti Padhao, and Vatsalya Mission.
Officials provided updates on the progress of different welfare projects and infrastructure development activities being undertaken in the state.
Women Empowerment Through Support Systems
The Union Minister’s visit also highlighted the importance of strengthening institutional support for women facing difficult situations.
During her inspection of the Sakhi One Stop Centre at Tepania in Udaipur, she reviewed facilities available for women affected by violence and distress.
She interacted with officials and stressed the need to improve rehabilitation support, counselling services, and assistance mechanisms so that women can access timely support.
The review of the Working Women’s Hostel project also reflected the government’s focus on creating safer and more supportive environments for women participating in education and employment opportunities.
Focus on Social Challenges and Awareness
Speaking at a review meeting at the State Guest House in Agartala, Annpurna Devi pointed out that social issues such as child marriage and drug abuse continue to pose stumbling blocks on the development path.
She called for stronger awareness campaigns and community participation to address these issues.
The Union Minister highlighted the national initiative to develop Child Marriage-Free Villages and stressed that social transformation requires active involvement from communities, local institutions, and government agencies.

She said that the benefits of welfare schemes must reach every eligible person, adding that effective delivery at the grassroots level would strengthen the foundation of a developed, prosperous, and inclusive India.
Tripura’s Role in Building Inclusive Development
The Union Minister’s assessment placed emphasis on Tripura’s role in implementing welfare initiatives that combine social security with empowerment.
She appreciated the state government’s efforts in carrying forward women and child welfare programmes with commitment and sensitivity.
The Minister also acknowledged initiatives undertaken by the State towards creating awareness against drug abuse, describing the fight against substance abuse as an important part of building a stronger society.
Earlier in the day, Annpurna Devi visited the Tripura Sundari Temple at Matabari in Udaipur and offered prayers. She said the visit to the revered Shakti Peeth provided a sense of peace and prayed for global harmony, prosperity, and the welfare of humanity.
Later in the evening, the Union Minister met Tripura Governor Indra Sena Reddy Nallu at Lok Bhavan during a courtesy visit.
Union Minister Annpurna Devi will visit Neermahal in Sepahijala district on June 30 and interact with members of women’s Self-Help Groups to review their activities.
The Union Minister’s visit underlined the growing focus on making welfare programmes more effective, accessible, and impactful as India moves towards the Viksit Bharat vision.
