Lalchandami Molsom, daughter of a daily labour and resident of a village in Tripura was feeling awkward owing to her ‘distorted’ face. All the children of her age look normal, whereas, Lalchandami Molsom was born with congenital defects of cleft lip and cleft palate. Not just the little girl, but her parents were also worried.
However, things have changed now for better – thanks to the Government scheme known as Rastriya Bal Suraksha Karyakram (RBSK). The girl and her parents are now happy.
Lalchandami Molsom, daughter of Kima Molsom resides at Killa R.D block under Gomati District in Tripura, was born with the same physique as other children of her age, except the cleft lips and cleft palate. Her poor parents were worried because of the birth defect.
In the month of October 2022, during the daily scheduled school visit near Killa Primary Health Center, after being informed by a local ASHA worker, The RBSK Mobile Health Team of Gomati District Hospital rushed to her house.

On reaching there, the Medical Officers on behalf of the team Dr.Puja Debnath, Dr.Arunabha Debnath and Pharmacist Prasenjit Nama identified her birth defect and immediately reported the matter to the district and state authorities.
The girl’s poor parents got a glimmer of hope after getting due assurance of complete free treatment by the team through the RBSK project and the surgery on her was conducted at TMC and BRAM Hospital, Agartala in a Cleft Lip and Palate Camp organized jointly by State Authorities and Mission Smile recently.
Observing the unprecedented change in the girl’s face, the overwhelmed parents of the girl expressed their heartfelt thanks to the state and district authorities.
“My daughter likes her new look a lot”, exalted parents said.
