As health officials reached to collect swab samples of the family members of one Covid 19 infected patient, they were attacked by the relatives of the patient. They also threatened Health personnel with dire consequences. Finally, the administration resorted to deploying a huge TSR force to complete the swab collection process.

A huge number of locals led by the family gheraoed them and chased the health officials away. Soon, the civil administration took concerted attempts and a huge contingent of TSR troops was deployed in the area. DCM Rupak Bhattacharjee himself rushed to the spot and completed the swab collection process of total of 22 persons.

According to reports, on July 3 one person hailing from Kailasahar’s Netaji Corner tested positive to the novel coronavirus. The health department made delay and the patient was shifted to Covid 19 treatment centre three days after the result came up. The patient who was found Covid19 positive on July 3 last was shifted to Covid centre on July 7. Instead of collecting swab samples of relatives on the day, the health officials reached the residence of the patient once again today to collect the samples of the family members.

Earlier on Tuesday, locals of the Old motor stand area in Kailashahar resented against lapses from the part of health administration.

On July 03 last, altogether 93 new Covid cases were reported in the state. Among these 93 cases, 2 cases were from Kailasahar. The concerned health department identified one patient in time and shifted him to the nearby Covid care centre located at Kumarghat but did not act promptly in case of the second case.

The locals alleged, as per the norms, a warning message needed to be pasted in the main entrance of the Covid patients for awareness of the locals but unfortunately, no such attempts were taken in this case due to unknown reasons. Even the other members of the family were not lodged into quarantine. Later, on Tuesday, the health department officials rushed to spot and sealed off the residence.

On being asked, Chief Medical Officer Sharadindu Reang said, a thorough investigation will be commissioned to ascertain the negligence if any.
