Kailasahar (Tripura), July 28: Ramkrishna Mahavidyalaya in Kailasahar on Monday witnessed a tense situation after a student was reportedly asked to leave the campus for not adhering to the college dress code, triggering a confrontation that necessitated police and Tripura State Rifles (TSR) intervention.

According to sources, the incident began when Ashraful Islam, a first-semester student, arrived without wearing the prescribed college uniform. Senior students reportedly asked him to leave the premises in accordance with an unofficially enforced dress code. Ashraful subsequently left the campus, only to return shortly with a group of outsiders escalating tensions.

As the outsiders were entering the college premises, senior students closed the main gate, leading to a heated verbal altercation between the two sides. The situation quickly escalated, prompting authorities to deploy a large contingent of police and TSR personnel from the Kailasahar police station. Their arrival helped disperse the outsiders and bring the situation under control.

In the aftermath of the incident, students raised serious allegations against the college administration, accusing them of negligence and indifference. They claimed to have repeatedly informed the authorities—both verbally and in writing—about the need to enforce a mandatory dress code and restrict the entry of outsiders on campus. According to the students, the administration failed to take any concrete steps, thereby creating an unsafe and disruptive academic environment.

Following the incident, the ABVP unit of the college, along with other student groups, submitted a memorandum to the college administration demanding immediate implementation of a mandatory uniform policy and stricter campus security measures to prevent unauthorized access. However, as the principal was on leave, college authorities were unavailable for comment.

The situation has raised broader concerns about campus discipline, administrative accountability, and student safety at Ramkrishna Mahavidyalaya. Authorities are expected to review the students’ demands and take appropriate action in the coming days to avoid further unrest, students opined.
