Train services linking Tripura with other cities were affected due to a landslide at the Mupa Station in Assam’s Dima Hasao district.

Dharmanagar (Tripura), July 3, 2025: A fresh landslide in Assam’s Dima Hasao district has disrupted rail connectivity along the Lumding-Badarpur hill section on Thursday, halting four trains linking Tripura to various cities. The landslide, occurring near the Mupa station, has caused soil and debris to slide along the guard wall near the railway tracks, affecting operations on this critical route.

While the landslide is less severe compared to previous incidents, it has still caused significant delays. Authorities remain optimistic, stating that the debris will be cleared and train services are expected to resume shortly.

“The landslip is not on a massive scale, and we are working to restore normalcy soon,” a railway official said. This marks the second disruption on the Lumding-Badarpur hill section since the monsoon began. Earlier, a landslide at Jatinga Lampur had suspended services for nearly a week, with operations resuming only on June 29.

The Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) has announced cancellations, partial cancellations, rescheduling, and regulations of several trains.

Railway authorities are monitoring the situation closely and striving to restore normal operations as quickly as possible to reduce inconvenience.

According to Kapinjal Kishore Sharma, Chief Public Relations Officer of NFR, train services were suspended from Thursday evening following a landslide between Dihakho and Mupa stations in the Lumding–Badarpur hill segment.

Senior railway personnel immediately arrived at the site to begin restoration. Efforts are underway at full pace under the guidance of senior engineers and officials.

Sharma confirmed that the line will remain non-operational until debris and boulders are completely removed. Help desks have been activated at key junctions to assist passengers with real-time updates.

Due to the landslide, five trains have been cancelled, while several others have undergone scheduling or route adjustments.

Passengers have been urged to stay informed through NFR’s official communication platforms for further updates.

This disruption follows the restoration of services on June 30, after a week-long suspension caused by previous landslides on the same route.

Train operations in the Lumding–Badarpur Hill Section have faced repeated interruptions since June 23 due to landslides severely damaging tracks in the hilly terrain of Assam’s Dima Hasao district.

Every monsoon season—from June to September—train links to northeastern states, particularly Tripura, Manipur, Mizoram, and southern Assam, are frequently severed by landslides, flooding, and track damage, posing regular challenges to connectivity and public movement in the region.
