Agartala, December 02, 2019: It seems new dawn ushered in Churaibari in North Tripura today as a Water Plant was inaugurated today. The Plant, apart from supplying five lakh litre potable water daily, will boost tourism in the area and create new earning avenues for locals. Notably, Churaibari area is famous for Agar plantation – another attraction for tourists.
Social Welfare and Social Education Santana Chakma inaugurated the drinking water plant at East Churaibari under Kadamtala Block in North Tripura today. While the plant will quench thirst of people, the water reservoir will become a major tourist spot, sources said. Chairman of TIDC, Tinku Roy and other dignitaries were present in the inaugural program.
The plant was constructed at an expense of Rs 4 crore. The plant is spread over 32-acre land including a sprawling
lake in forest area.
The water plant will address long-standing demand of Churaibari people for drinking water facility as well as the lake with small islands in the backdrop of multi-hued greenery will attract tourists.
Sources said, the plant will supply five lakh litre potable water daily among the inhabitants of five panchayat areas
that included Churaibari, East Churaibari, Phulbari, South Phulbari and East Phulbari.
Speaking on the occasion, Santana Chakma urged people to utilize water judiciously and to shun wastage of water.
She said, present government is determined to ensure drinking water supply to people and working through different welfare projects.
In his speech, Tinku Roy appealed to people to aware about preserving natural resources. He said, several States in
the country like Maharastra, Tamilnadu are facing acute water crisis – even though there is no such crisis in our State, it is necessary that we start preservation of natural resources without any further delay to avert possibility of
water crisis.
Turning focus on splendor of the sprawling lake, Tinku Roy said, the Government is mulling over to develop
tourism centering the lake. “The State Government has undertaken plan to convert and decorate the lake as an attractive tourist spot”, Roy commented.
