January 25, 2018: Even though other parties are still scratching their heads over candidate list, ruling Left Front Candidates have started filing nominations for forthcoming 60-seat Tripura Assembly Polls. Political analysts today opined, CPIM has put themselves well ahead of other Parties in the ‘first round’ – in announcing candidate list and filing nominations.
The Left Front was the first Political front which came up its candidate list on January 23 last and immediately after Gazette Notification was issued on January yesterday, as many as eight CPIM candidates filed nominations from their respective Assembly Constituencies.
In all the eight constituencies, large number of supporters of CPIM, led by the respective candidates marched through streets and reached Returning Officer’s Office. Presence of women and youth supporters is hallmark and encouraging factor for CPIM – unlike previous polls, this year women and youths are taking part in CPIM rallies and meeting in increasing number which is a point that Opposition must note, opined an Agartala based political analyst.
Major Political Parties like BJP and Congress are yet to finalize their candidate list. With weekend holiday starting from R-Day tomorrow, Political parties will get only three days to submit nomination before deadline expires on January 31. While major Parties have failed to announce candidate lists, smaller tribal based parties – IPFT (Tripraha), INCT-NCT Forum, SUCI have announced their candidate list.
BJP’s ally IPFT (NC) have also faltered in announce candidate list for all of the nine seats as per the alliance deal. In a hurriedly called press meet, IPFT leaders managed to announce names of only seven candidates while remaining two will be announced sometime later.
BJP’s Tripura poll in-charge and Assam Minister Dr Hemant Biswa Sharma even could not tell exact date of announcement of BJP’s candidate list. Speaking to media today in Agartala, Dr Sharma said, the list could be announced either January 27 evening or next day. Congress is also expected to release its candidate list around same time.
However, it is true that CPIM has outsmarted opponent BJP in the first round – in announcing candidate list and filing nominations.
