A special ward for treatment of pregnant and lactating women has been set up at AGMC Hospital in Agartala. In a Facebook post, Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb wrote this.
He wrote, “Seeing the number of pregnant & lactating mothers who are COVID19 POSITIVE, a special ward has been arranged in war footing at AGMC and shifted all pregnant & lactating mothers so that they can get good treatment and better facilities”.
This initiative will ensure safety and better treatment facilities for both the expecting mothers as well as new born babies. Confirming this, the Chief Minister further wrote, “We are providing special food packets to pregnant & lactating mothers at AGMC Covid Ward. Team of specialized Doctors are taking care of them.”
Unlike Covid Care Centers, expecting mothers and mothers with new born babies will get special food packets – expectedly considering the nutrition and other related aspects essential for such patients, medical experts opined.
Hailing the move, experts said, this will help to ensure safety of unborn babies and uninfected new born babies. Under observation of specialized medical team, affected pregnant and lactating mothers will receive proper and better medical care.
In the wake of two viral Facebook videos, uploaded by one expecting mother, the decision has been termed as a positive and timely intervention by the State Government. In the videos, the 7-month pregnant mother narrated pitiable condition of Covid Care Center – fearing future of the unborn baby, she urged the Chief Minister through the video to intervene.
Soon after the video was uploaded, Chief Minister did intervene and directed concerned person to shift the expectant mother to GB Hospital immediately. Getting strict instruction from Deb, the pregnant mother was promptly shifted from the Covid Care Center to the GB Hospital bringing much expected relief among the netizens. The expectant mother also expressed her heartfelt gratitude at the Chief Minister’s initiative. So also the netizens hailed the prompt response of the State Government.
However, the State Government did not stop after helping one patient. Considering the growing number of Covid19 positive expectant mothers, State Government has come up with a special ward – exclusively for such patients. The ward was set up on war footing to ensure immediate shifting of such patients in the special ward.
