January 31, 2018: On the last day of nomination filing process for February 18 Tripura Assembly Polls, BJP candidates across the State submitted nominations amidst noticeably cheering crowds. Among the notables, BJP State president Biplab Deb also filed nomination from Banamalipur Assembly Constituency in Agartala. From Ramnagar constituency in Agartala, former Congress leader Surojit Datta, flanked by ‘huge’ supporters submitted nomination papers. Former Congress MLA, Ratan Lal Nath submitted his nomination papers from Mohanpur Assembly Constituency.

State BJP vice president Subal Bhowmik who initially declined to contest from Sonamura Assembly Constituency, also submitted his nomination papers from Sonamura. Immediately, after BJP’s candidates’ list was out, Subal Bhowmik expressed his unwillingness to contest from Sonamura. However, later with reported intervention of senior leaders, he agreed to fight poll battle from Sonamura. Pratima Bhowmik who is contesting against Chief Minister Manik Sarkar submitted nomination from Dhanpur Assembly Constituency.
Well attended colourful saffron rallies across the State drew attention of common people. In Udaipur, BJP candidate – Former Trinamool Congress leader and MLA Pranajit Sinha – led a huge rally which completely paralyzed the temple town. In Dharmanagar, former TMC leader and MLA Biswabandhu Sen filed nomination papers.
“The hallmark of today’s nomination filing process is attendance of large number of supporters – men and women dressed in bright colour attire rallied in support of saffron candidates in all the constituencies.
