3 Suspected Bangladeshi Cattle Thieves Lynched in Tripura
Three suspected Bangladeshi cattle lifters were killed, and two Indian villagers were injured in a violent confrontation near the India-Bangladesh border in Tripura’s Khowai district on Wednesday. The clash erupted after the alleged intruders attacked two locals working in a rubber plantation. Police later recovered the bodies and launched an investigation.
Agartala, Oct 15: Three unidentified Bangladeshi nationals, suspected to be cattle lifters, were hacked to death, while two Indian villagers sustained injuries following a violent clash between the two sides at a border village in Tripura’s Khowai district on Wednesday, officials confirmed.
According to a senior police official, two residents of Bidyabil village under the Champahowar police station in Khowai district had gone to work in a nearby rubber plantation situated close to the India-Bangladesh border.
While at work, they reportedly spotted three Bangladeshi men hiding in the plantation. When the locals confronted them, the alleged cattle lifters turned violent and attacked the villagers with sharp-edged weapons (daos), leaving both injured.
The injured villagers managed to return to their village and informed others about the incident. A group of villagers then rushed to the border area, where they caught hold of the three Bangladeshi men after a scuffle and allegedly hacked them to death.
The two injured villagers were admitted to Behelabari Government Hospital for treatment.
Soon after the incident, police teams accompanied by forensic experts reached the scene, recovered the three bodies, and sent them to Khowai District Hospital for post-mortem examination. Officials said the situation has been brought under control, and senior officers have visited the spot to assess the situation. An investigation into the matter is currently underway.

In a separate development, the Border Security Force (BSF), in collaboration with Tripura Police, conducted a joint operation in the Karamtila border area of South Tripura district on Tuesday and seized a consignment of clothing worth approximately ₹8 lakh, a BSF spokesperson informed in IANS.
He added that in multiple other operations, vigilant BSF personnel foiled several smuggling attempts along the Indo-Bangladesh border, rescuing cattle and seizing contraband goods valued at around ₹5 lakh that were intended to be smuggled into Bangladesh.
Tripura shares an 856-kilometre-long international border with Bangladesh and is surrounded by the neighbouring country on three sides, making it particularly vulnerable to illegal cross-border activities. Except for a few stretches, most parts of the border are fenced to curb smuggling, infiltration, and other trans-border crimes.
