An agreement beween Agartala Cancer Hospital and AIIMS, New Delhi is set to be signed soon for a Faculty Exchange Programme to harness the cancer treatment in Tripura.
Atal Bihari Vajpayee Regional Cancer Center (ABV RCC) of Tripura, also known as Agartala Cancer Hospital, has once again hit the headlines and like previous occasions, this time also for good reason. After launching PET scan facility and introducing Oncological surgery facilities in the Hospital, the ABV RCC is set to sign a MoU with AIIMS, New Delhi to further enhance the quality of treatment in the Hospital. Sources said, the MoU will be signed to start a Faculty exchange programme between Delhi AIIMS and ABV RCC.

Speaking about the MoU signing, Medical Superintendent of ABV RCC Dr Gautam Majumder said, A Faculty Exchange Programmes between AIIMS, New Delhi and ABV RCC will commence very soon. To this end a MoU between the authorities of the two hospitals will be signed”.
Dr Majumder added, “Head of Department of Oncological Surgery of Delhi AIIMS, Dr M D S Deo will visit the ABV RCC by the end of current month to explore the entire process of conducting the Faculty Exchange Programme “. In this connection, Dr Majumder pointed out that the programmewould enhance and harness the Cancer treatment facilities in Tripura.
Notably, Agartala Cancer Hospital made series of giant steps forward recently and ensured that quality cancer treatment facility is available to cancer patients of the State. To this end, along with existing facilities, the Hospital authority introduced PET Scan facility – this is one of the important diagnostic tools. Importantly, even as the Hospital has strong Oncology and Radiation departments, the Hospital did not have Oncological Surgery department.
As surgery is often an integral part of cancer treatment, many patients of Tripura have to travel to other cities to avail the treatment. With the introduction of Oncological surgery facility in the Hospital, patients of the State will get a big reprieve. Moreover, armed with modern technology and full-fledged medicine, surgery and radiation departments, the ABV RCC will be able to cater needs of neighbouring State as well as Bangladesh opening doors for ‘Medical Tourism’.
